In The origins of Esavian doors go back as early as 1917 - when they were constructed in timber.
In those early days, Esavian was the trade name for the Educational Supply Association (usually abbreviated to ESA), which was the leading school furniture supplier of the day. The Esavian speciality was a folding door for classroom partitions.
In 1971, Nigel Jewers joined the company at Esavian Works in Stevenage. Having gained considerable experience with another door manufacturer, Nigel brought to Esavian the idea of steel sliding doors for much larger openings - aircraft hangars.
In 1983, Nigel Jewers left Esavian and started out alone. Trading as Nigel Jewers Associates, he manufactured a small range of modern insulated folding doors, selling them exclusively through Henderson Doors - the largest UK door company at that time. These products, now the Jewers Doors Phoenix range, are more popular than ever.
Nigel's company thrived and he began to explore the hangar door market - soon winning many orders against competition from Esavian. In 1987, Jewers Doors Limited (as it was now known) acquired the Esavian business. Consequently, Esavian became the brand name for hangar doors designed and built by Jewers Doors Ltd.
Nigel retired from the day to day running of the business in 2004, by which time his three sons Chris, Mark and Jonathan were all working as directors in the business.
In 2021 Jewers Doors moved into a state of the art factory and offices on a new industrial park in Biggleswade, Bedfordshire. Comprising 60,000 square feet of manufacturing and office facilities which incorporates a new panel press, wet spray and blast booths and powder coating plant to maintain the highest quality standards for design and manufacture of Phoenix and Esavian doors.
All activities are controlled from our Biggleswade HQ, which currently employs more than 50 people with additional staff in Dubai to look after our strong Middle East market.
Jewers Doors remains a family and employee-owned business, dedicated to providing a first class service at all times.
